moving up in the world

November 2033 - Rachel Cooper and Genesis McCullough are 25.

Genesis is painting a portrait of Jillian and Jack's wedding. When they got married they didn't have enough money to have a wedding portrait painted. All they have is a photograph, which Genesis borrowed a few months ago to paint this portrait.

"It's really nice of you to do this. My mom really appreciates it," Rachel says.

"Well I want to get on her good side," Genesis says.

"She doesn't hate you..."

"No, but she'd be happier if I were a man. This is a sorry-I'm-your-daughter's-lesbian-lover-instead-of-her-husband present."

But despite Genesis' worries, Jillian loves her daughter and her daughter's wife. And she loves the portrait. "It's beautiful! I'm going to hang it up right away. Thank you so much darling."

Rachel gets a big promotion, and she and Genesis decide to move out of their apartment in New Athens to an apartment in Arcadia. The promotion isn't the only reason for the move; they've decided that they want a baby, and that means they need a bigger apartment and a yard.

But before the baby, they decide to take a vacation to Three Lakes to celebrate.

Neither of them are very interested in hiking or roughing it.

After three years of working 60 hour weeks at the law firm, Rachel desperately needs some relaxation.

They even meet Bigfoot and learn the slap dance!

Once they get back from Three Lakes, they start trying to have a baby. They talked about adoption, but Genesis wants to have a biological child.

"I've heard good things about a doctor in Drake," she says. "Dr. Technician, I think."

"Dr. Technician?" Rachel asks skeptically.

"That's what his card says, Dr. P. Technician. He's supposed to be the best fertility doctor in the state." She pauses, then adds, "Apparently he uses some unorthodoxed methods, but he promises results."

Their daughter is born just after midnight. They name her Zoey. She's beautiful, but there is something unusual about her.

They both really wanted to adopt a child, but I was looking for a way to include aliens in my neighborhood. Since all half-alien babies end up with a parent named Pollination Technician, I decided that via fertility treatments (read: the Sim Blender), Genesis would be impregnated with an alien baby. I called the fertility clinic's location Drake after Dr. Frank Drake, who came up with an equation to estimate the probability of contacting extraterrestrial life.

  1. They definitely need a vacation after all those work hours! And a little alien baby cute! I look forward to seeing what Zooey looks like.
