Justus and Phoebe got engaged in college, but after college their relationship hits a snag due to their incompatible careers.
"You're going to get arrested!" Phoebe yells at Justus. "You deserve to get arrested. You're a con man!"
"Con artist," Justus corrects.
They live in the Warehouse Apartments in New Athens, and Phoebe finds sympathy in their next door neighbor, Whitney Riley.
"He doesn't give any thought as to how this affects my career," she complains. "How can I run for office if my fiance is a petty criminal?"
"They just won't grow up," Whitney sighs. "I really love my job as a CSI, but Abhijeet just tells me that I've sold out and that he's real artist."
When Phoebe gets elected to the State Assembly, she decides she's had enough and dumps him. Justus isn't too happy about it.
Neither of them stay at the Warehouse. Phoebe moves to a luxury apartment complex in Arcadia, and since Justus can't afford the Warehouse alone, he ends up moving to a cheaper building a few blocks away.
He misses Phoebe, but there are advantages to being a young bachelor. Plus now he can focus on his work. She might scoff at his aspirations, but he's determined to become a criminal mastermind.
I sent Justus to college because of his relationship with Madison. (Abhijeet, Whitney's boyfriend, got sent to college for the same reason; he's the boy she met at Takemizo Village, and Jamie met him at Three Lakes.) Justus wanted to get engaged to Phoebe, but they have pretty low chemistry (just one bolt), and neither of them wanted to get married. Their incompatible careers were the last straw; he wants to be a Criminal Mastermind, and she wants to be Mayor. Now hopefully they'll find more suitable significant others.
